Sasha Yazov: 25% of irony

25% of Irony is a new project where the artist turns digital traces of someone else’s virtual-game presence into paintings, poeticizing and theatricalizing screenshots.

In his art Sasha Yazov turns to the aesthetics of the computer games of the 2000s - primarily the game SIMS in its early versions. SIMS - a single - player simulation game in which the player was called upon to build his life in the computer world.

Using airbrushing and stencils, Yazov achieves a maximum resemblance to the digital aesthetic of games of the '90s, taking us back to a time when computer game culture was in its peak, and the Internet still seemed to be a platform of freedom and unprecedented opportunities for everyone.
